Plants contain many bioactive compounds. These bioactive compounds are responsible for many different biological activities. The use of plants in complementary medicine is becoming increasingly common. The bioactive compounds in it highlight the use of plants in complementary medicine as a natural product. Many studies have shown that plants have many activities, such as antioxidant and antimicrobial. In this study, the biological activities of species of the genus Capparis L. were investigated. The most common name of the genus Capparis is known as capers. Apart from the name caper, there are also names such as kabbar, alcaparro, and gollaro in Pakistan, Spain, and some Arab regions. It is in the Capparidaceae family. Caper is a perennial shrub plant with a wide spreading area. Previous studies have been identified in the literature. As a result of the literature research, 13 Capparis species have been determined to have biological activities. In addition, the nutritional properties, essential oil, and phenolic contents of the plant species were investigated. According to the results of the study, it was determined that the plant is an important medicinal plant and contains many important biologically active compounds. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.
