Determination of the Factors Affecting Divorce in Türkiye According to Gender: A Research with TUIK Data

Abstract

This study aims to determine the factors affecting the divorces of men and women in Turkiye and the effects of these factors on the probability of divorce. For this purpose, the survey data of 24200 people, 55% women and 45% men, were used in the Family Structure Research carried out by TUIK in 2016. In the research, Pearson's chi-square analysis was performed first to determine the factors affecting the divorces of individuals. Then, logit and probit regression analyses were applied to the variables found to be significant. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that some of the sociodemographic and socioeconomic variables significantly affect individuals' divorce status.
