THE POETIC LETTERS RELATED TO DESTINATIONS IN THE CLASSICAL TURKISH LITERATURE AND FETHI'S RELATED TO THE HAJJ IN THE NAME OF VASF-I MENAZIL

Abstract

The letters related to the destinations are the works which are written about the destinations stopped during the journeys between the various places. Most of the works which are written in such form that we see in the poetic and prose forms are on the destinations where are stopped between Istanbul-Damascus-Mecca or Kahire-Mecca during a hajj journey. Generally, those subject to the literal value among these works which are written in the quality of guide in order to inform the applicants of hajj who will go to the journey of hajj are the ones which are written in poetic form. One of the poets who wrote such works which were in demand by the poets who were not famous in the 17th and 18th centuries is Fethi of whom we do not have any information about his life. Fethi wrote a work including 153 couplets in the mesnevi verse form in the name of Vasf-i Mendzil in such a form. The poet gave information about the destinations that he stopped over there from Cairo to Mecca by his hajj camel train from Egypt. The most important attention-grabbing property of this work written with a plain language is that the detailed information is not given about the destinations and it involves the various beneficial information in order that the intended hajj applicants don't have difficulty during their hajj journeys. In this study, the information about the letters related to the destinations is given, some evaluations are provided, and the translated text of Vasf-i Mendzil written in such type is included in consideration with its form and content properties.
